Negros Oriental Province - The Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) of Tayasan through the RHU and DOH staff reoriented all their Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars on the different health and nutrition programs and their roles and functions for the sustainability of Buntis Wellness Project. The activity attended by 319 participants frontline health and nutrition workers was held on 31 May – 1 June 2022 at the Ike’s Kamalig of the said town. ND II Raya Faith Luce served as speaker for the nutrition program topic.
The Buntis wellness project is a special project initiated by the MNC to ensure that pregnant women especially the first time-time moms of the municipality will be cared for and helped in their pregnancy and motherhood journey.
Topics discussed during the orientation session included respiratory infections and COVID-19 ppdates discussed by MHO/MNAO Dr. Myrasol P. Zuniega, sanitation program & ZOD was presented by Sanitary Inspector Nilo Jainar, dengue program elaborated by PHN Demma Irene Bromo, blood donation program by NDP Fritzel Rose Bromo and the nutrition program covering BNS and BHW roles, and functions, First 1000 Days of life and proper height, weight and MUAC taking handled by ND II Raya Faith Luce.
Other subject matters provided to attendees were family planning and responsible parenthood by NDP Donna Rillon and non-communicable diseases by NDP Glemilden Candido. There was also a demonstration on blood pressure taking as facilitated by Dr. Zuniega while the staff took turns in conducting the return demonstration to ensure that the BHWs and BNS acquired the needed skills on basic assessment.
With health and nutrition workers now equipped with basic knowledge and skills on safe maternal and child health, early detection and referrals are expected to ensue making sure maternal and child health mortality in the municipality will be mitigated. //ND II Raya Faith A. Luce, RND
