Basay NM activities

Basay, Negros Province - After 2-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with lockdowns lifted and most people in the community are now fully vaccinated, the members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC_ of this agricultural town are very thrilled to launch this year’s Nutrition Month celebration.

This was one of the agreements reached by Basay MNC during its meeting held on 13 June 2022. Dr. Celine E. Belga, the new MHO/MNAO presented the Nutrition Month activities planned in detail since February 2022 together with PHN/MNPC Shellane J. Tubio, NDP point person for Nutrition Rogelene T. Espinosa with technical assistance from ND II Jhianne Mae Nicole C. Tugaoen of DOH CV CHD/NNC 7.

To highlight the key messages of this year’s Nutrition Month celebration, the MNC will conduct an activity every week for the whole month of July. The celebration will commence on the 4th of July with a Nutrition Month kick-off parade around the Poblacion area and a short program will then follow. The participants including the Philippine National Police & Bureau of Fire Protection, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation members, barangay captains, MNC members and other stakeholders are invited to join the activity. During the short program, the Nutrition Prayer and Pledge will be recited. After which, a Zumba Session will end the opening salvo.

For the 2nd week, there will be a Vegetable Contest in which a vegetable carving and “Pinaka” contest will be conducted. On the 3rd week, there will be a search for the Best Maternity DIY photo which will be uploaded at the MNC Facebook page. And on the 4th week, will have its Nutrition Month culmination program which will highlight the search for Well-baby and Dance Contests. Awarding of different contest will cap the month-long celebration of the municipality.

With the theme, “New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon!”, the lined-up activities hope to contribute to the campaign objectives of raising the awareness of the importance of nutrition in building resilience and recovery from the pandemic; stimulate discussions among stakeholders on how to build back better the design, delivery, and scale-up of nutrition interventions; and engage various sectors and the public in activities that promote nutrition.
