Brown plate

Cebu City – The brown plate of Pinggang Pinoy is the Filipino Food Plate for Adults. The brown color represents the original placemat color of the Pinggang Pinoy denoting the color of the woven buri. It is the color of the Filipino Malay race.

For Filipino adults, there is an ever-so-popular mantra: Tara sa unli-rice! (Let’s go with unlimited rice!) Well, there is no wrong with consuming rice. A Filipino meal is not complete without rice. It is an important part of a Filipino diet. What makes it unhealthy is eating more than what we actually need. This is what the brown plate of Pinggang Pinoy wishes to convey… the right amount of food on a Filipino plate.

It is important to take everything with MO-VA-BA:

  • Moderation – portion control is important in an adult’s diet. There is no bad food but check their recommended serving sizes.
  • Variety – they say there is no one single food item that can give all the needed nutrients that the body needs. Make sure to eat a variety of foods every day.
  • Balance – a balanced meal means there is a different kind of food with recommended portion sizes and filled with an adequate amount of nutrients that the body needs.

Filipinos are known to be food lovers; we have a wide variety of cuisine in every region and our food is greatly affected by our culture. How much we enjoy our life as Filipino adults depend on the type of food choices we make in our diet. These choices include having healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle that can make us enjoy life to the fullest.

The Pinggang Pinoy also have other colors: Green for pregnant and lactating women, Blue for teenagers, Red for the elderly, and Orange for kids.
