Dauin, Negros Oriental – The Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) of Dauin led by its Chair and Mayor Galicano A. Truita with Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Dr. Melpha B. Yee conducted a series of activities to celebrate the 48th Nutrition Month.
A motorcade that served as its launching activity was held on 01 July 2022. The vehicles adorned with streamers carrying the theme “New normal na nutrisyon sama-samang gawan ng solusyon” roamed around the city and nearby barangays. This was participated in by MNC members and RHU staff. The convoy’s last stop was in the Municipal Hall where a short program followed. Mass delivery of the Nutrition Month Prayer and Pledge highlighted the opening program. All severely wasted and moderately wasted together with their significant others joined the launching activity where they were also provided with food ration, micronutrient powder and ready-to-use therapeutic food or RUTF. Nutritional status of these malnourished children will be monitored every two weeks.
On the 8th of July 2022, a Nutrition Booth was set up at the public market where the health and nutrition personnel conducted nutrition counselling, blood pressure taking, blood sugar monitoring and blood typing. These services were offered for free to interested Dauinanons.
A quiz bee was also conducted on 15 July 2022 in time for the monthly meeting of the BNS and BHW Federation. The quiz bee was aimed to assess and provide nutrition knowledge to the participants. The questions asked during the competition centered on the Nutrition Month focus. On 22 July 2022, a webinar via facebook live was held. This was hosted by a famous vlogger Mr. Aile Pinero with guest Municipal agriculturist from Negros Oriental province Ms. Arline Corsame as the main discussant.
The month-long observance will be culminated on the 29th of July 2022 with a Well Baby Contest to be participated in by six months to one year old children of the municipality.
