Badian, Cebu - Badian is one of the municipalities in Cebu province actively participating in the campaign for nutrition every year. Though the last two years they only have limited activities due to pandemics, this year they conducted a month-long activity to campaign for proper nutrition.
On the first day of July, they started the celebration with a motorcade from Badian Training Center to the boundary of Moalboal and Alegria. It was participated by representatives from the Municipal Nutrition Committee including the Rural Health Unit Badian, Mayor’s office, Department of Agriculture, St. James Academy, National Food Authority, Badian District Hospital, Bureau of Fire, Philippine National Police, Disaster Risk Reduction Management, daycare workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars.
After the motorcade, there was a planting of fruit-bearing trees which was led by the Mayor and Chair of the MNC Hon. Hon. Mayor Carmencita Lumain together with the department heads of the municipality. This was followed by a program held at Badian Training Center with the opening remarks of MNAO/ OIC-MHO Dr. Michael Lester M. Panogan. Mayor Lumain also gave an inspirational message as well as the Municipal Agriculture Officer Mr. Benito Secuya. ND II Irene Umagap discussed the 48th Nutrition Month while MNPC Luzmarie Torreon led the Nutrition Month pledge. The BNSs gave a surprising number. The opening program was capped with the signing of a commitment of support to the nutrition program and Zumba where everyone danced with gusto. Medical Officer Dr. Urduja Espiritu delivered the closing remarks thanking everyone for their active participation and announcing the other activities for the month-long observance and emphasizing that the launching program is just the start of the campaign. More activities are still in the pipeline to promote the theme “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang Gawan ng Solusyon”, she concluded. // ND II Irene M. Umagap, RND
