Valencia, Negros Oriental – NNC 7 reminds the members of the Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC) on their roles in nutrition program. This was emphasized during the BNC meeting held at the Barangay Hall, Bongbong, Valencia, Negros Oriental on 20 May 2022, with the purpose of reactivating the nutrition committee and planning for the upcoming Nutrition Month Celebration.
Nutritionist-Dietitian II Niña Estela Lindsay Romero of DOH CV CHD/NNC 7 during the meeting discussed the overview of the barangay nutrition committee and its vital roles in addressing hunger and malnutrition in the locality with emphasis on the preparation of a nutrition action plan complementary to and integrated with other plans of the local government unit and higher level plans; adoption and financing of the plan; coordination of nutrition and nutrition-related activities of member agencies and other agencies; monitor of nutrition and related activities of member agencies and other agencies involved in the nutrition program; and mobilization of resources to ensure that the plan is implemented.
The BNC is also responsible for preparing and evaluating the nutrition month activities of the barangay. Barangay Bongbong’s celebration of the 48th annual campaign was highlighted with the Idol ko si Nanay learning sessions. The 3-day session, held on July 25-27, 2022 at the Bongbong Barangay Hall was participated in by 12 lactating mothers and 12 pregnant women. The budget for the food, and token and other materials needed for the activity was sourced out from Gender and Development fund.
The graduation was attended by the BNC members, the MHO, midwives, and members of the DOH HRH family. BNC Chairman, and Punong Barangay Hon. Asterio Vincoy Ubag in his inspirational message during the graduation ceremony challenged the mothers to apply what they learned from the session. He also committed to conduct the quarterly meetings to monitor and support the implementation of the nutrition programs in the barangay so the BNC can attain its vision of “Making Barangay BongBong a well-nourished community” // ND II Niña Estela Lindsay Romero, RND
