Boosting Immune System

Siquijor Province - In these challenging times, the strength of one’s immune system is of vital importance. Building a strong immune system starts with taking advantage of the best way to protect ourselves from harmful illnesses. As COVID-19 spreads across nations, the world is fighting with containing the virus and stopping its spread.  What is reassuring is that we have vaccines available that serves as a vital shield against the deadly virus. However, many people who have taken the vaccine shots have complained about the side effects like headache, body ache, tiredness, fever, chills, etc.

To reduce these side effects, we need to support our body with nutrient after vaccination since health is the topmost priority. “Boosting the immune system” is always the marketing term use.

Here are some backed up ways to build and maintain a strong immune system.

  • Maintain a healthy diet. As with most things in your body, a healthy diet is key to a strong immune system. This means making sure you eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats, that contain important healing nutrients will help boost immunity. Experts believe that your body absorbs vitamins more efficiently from dietary sources, rather than supplements, the best way to support your immune system is to eat a well-balanced diet.
  • Stay hydrated is the key to good health. Water plays an important role in your body, including supporting your immune system. Drink a lot of water a minimum of eight to twelve glasses of water a day can minimize the risk of developing severe side effects through the course of the vaccine. Being properly hydrated will not only prevent you from feeling sick but may also help to shorten the duration and intensity of side effects.
  • Get plenty of rest and plenty of sleep, especially if you feel achy or sick or just simply relax and let your body rest while the vaccine charges up your immune system. Studies have shown that people who don't get enough quality sleep are more prone to getting sick after exposure to viruses, such as those that cause the common cold.
