Glucose NDG

Cebu City - Glucose comes from the greek word “sweet”. It’s a type of sugar you get from food sources namely carbohydrates and the body use it for energy. Glucose is commonly known by its other name: blood sugar. It is the key in keeping body processes in top working order. When blood glucose levels are within range, it can’t be noticed. But when it goes beyond boundaries, there are some effects that can be felt, especially in the long run.

Glucose is one of the preferred fuels for bodily functions in the form of carbohydrates. Enzymes in the body breaks down the food sources, during this process, glucose is produced and released.

Sources of carbohydrates:

  • Whole grains

-Cereals, old fashioned oats (not instant)

  • Whole grain breads

            - Breads that lists as a first ingredient (whole wheat, whole rye, or whole grain)

  • Whole fruit instead of juice

            - Some fruits hast twice as much fiber as 1 glass of fruit juice

  • Rice

            - Brown rice is a whole grain that provide fiber and vitamins.

  • Pasta

-A very rich source of carbohydrates

Maintaining a healthy blood glucose level is a must in order for our body to achieve optimal function. Low blood glucose levels (hypoglycaemia) can lead to dizziness, weakness, light headedness. And a very high blood glucose level can lead to diabetes mellitus and also it can damage body organs in the long run if not controlled. // PDO I Noah Vincent D. Gallo, RND
