Carmen Health Campaign

Carmen, Cebu – The municipality of Carmen initiated activities to promote concerns of women. Celebrated every 20-26 June, cervical awareness week reminds women to have regular check-up to determine if they are at risk of this type of cancer affecting women of reproductive age. Women who have had 3 or more full-term pregnancies have an increased risk of developing cervical cancer.

Safe motherhood week on the other hand celebrated every 4 to 20 May aims to raise awareness regarding the proper maternal care during pregnancy, childbirth, lactation period and postnatal care, minimize maternal mortality and encourages mothers to seek proper medical and nutritional care for her and her baby. The real goal is to provide better facilities, different services to prevent maternal and child mortality during labor.

The municipality of Carmen partnered with Danao Social Hygienic Clinic and Danao Lying-In clinic to provide services and care to the pregnant mothers and other women of Carmen. Both activities were held at the gymnasium of Carmen. Buntis kits containing milk, water and vitamins were also provided. Counseling on the right food intake, the importance to have a regular check-up were also provided. BS Nutrition and Dietetics students from the University of San Carlos showcased their talent through Zumba.

The participating women had a great time enjoying the fun-learning and meaningful event especially designed for them to achieve a healthy pregnancy and better life. They were very grateful to the RHU personnel who served as facilitators.  LGU Carmen was also thankful to the active participation of the pregnant women for giving time and effort in joining the dual celebration. // ND II Geraldine Mae S.
