Malabuyoc NM Culmination

Malabuyoc, Cebu – The Municipal Nutrition Committee of Malabuyoc concluded their 48th Nutrition Month celebration with a Nutri-Tabo Display Contest in Barngay Cerdena. This was held on 27 July 2022 at the covered court of the said barangay. It was attended by about 100 participants. Aligned with this year’s campaign theme “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang Gawan ng Solusyon”, the activity was aimed to create awareness of the importance of proper nutrition in achieving a healthy community.  Nutri-Tabo was also organized to encourage the community to have their own backyard garden to produce their own foods and have food-secure families especially during this pandemic. There was also a cooking contest to help mothers create more ideas of cooking cheap but nutritious recipe to provide their family with healthy dishes.

The program started with an opening prayer by Kagawad Edilberto Ybanez, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. A welcome message was given by Punong Barangay and BNC Chair Manuel R. Cardines. Rural Health Midwife Lenie Obiasada gave an overview of the program. Nutrition discussion with the mothers of malnourished children was also conducted and this was facilitated by Nutrition focal PHN Aimee Bernales. This was done to orient the mothers on the effect of malnutrition and interventions they can do to help their children achieve their ideal weights. In between the sessions were Zumba dance contest to promote healthy lifestyle through exercise. Purok Panagdait won the cooking and zumba contest while Purok Panaghiusa won the Nutri-Tabo contest. The winners received four thousand pesos coming from the barangay coffers. The event was closed by Kagawad on Health Honorable Jayson C. Obenita.  BNS Annalou L. Alsola acted as emcee during the whole activity.  

Barangay Cerdena is one of the barangays in Malabuyoc with an active and supportive Barangay Nutrition Committee with Punong Barangay and BNC Chair Honorable Manuel R. Cardines. It was the first barangay in Malabuyoc visited by the MNC for their advocacy to re-organize the BNC early on. The BNC Chairman intently held the meetings and invited all the members of the committee for re-organization. // ND II Irene M. Umagap, RND
