Pinamungajan, Cebu - The Municipality of Pinamungajan, Cebu joins the whole nation in the celebration of 48th Nutrition Month with the theme “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang gawan ng Solusyon!” They culminated the monthlong observance on 29 July 2022 with Contests including a Well-Baby contest, Best Backyard Gardening, Nutri Quiz, Poster-slogan contest, Cooking contest, Agro-Food fair contest, all of which helped promote and advocate for nutrition specific and sensitive nutrition interventions. It is a tradition of the MNC lead by the Municipal Health Office of Pinamungajan to plan and organize a series of activities that promote and advocate good nutrition in the month-long celebration.
During the culmination event, ND II James Aaron Perez of DOH CVCHD deployed to NNC Region VII was one of the judges. He was joined by DMO Servil Mae V. Villaespin of DOH CVCHD, ND I Shaine Arrah Romarate of Pinamungajan District Hospital, and Municipal Agriculturist Leonida Yongco.
The culmination started with a Nutrition Month Prayer and Nutrition Month Pledge and was followed with an opening remark by Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Melochie R. Daroy-Pausal. And was followed with a welcome message by Hon. Ana Jessica A. Baricuatro, newly elected mayor of Pinamungajan and at the same time Municipal Nutrition Committee Chair. In her welcome message Hon. Jecjec Baricuatro stated the importance of strengthening the nutrition programs in municipality and that all malnourished children should be taken care of. She also further greeted everyone happy nutrition month as she remembers wearing vegetables and joining nutrition month activities during her childhood days.
The judges then went around to evaluate the different contest that was participated by different agencies and local non-government associations in Pinamungajan. 4Ps association of Pinamungajan garnered the best Agro-food fair wherein they showcased healthy nutritious food groups of go, grow, and glow. While the Pinamungajan Association of BHW won the cooking contest for being the economic, budget friendly ingredients, and tasty food choice that can be enjoyed by the family.
Dr. Tomomi N. Abe, Rural Health Physician in her closing remarks invited everyone to maintain a healthy food choice at homes and advocated good nutrition and breastfeeding practices. The event was moderated by RHM Aida Iglesia.
The Municipal Nutrition Committee noting that proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements in being healthy and living a long life partnered with the local NGO “Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative”, to help sustain the nutrition programs in the municipality most specially through feeding that targeted the malnourished children covering all barangays of Pinamungajan.
