Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental - The Local Government Unit of Vallehermoso, in coordination with the Municipal Nutrition Committee spearheaded by Hon. Marianne S. Gustilo and MNAO Dr. Noelah Marie L. Akut, conducted a Basic Course training for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS). The training attended by 16 BNSs from the 15 barangay was held on 21 July 2022, as part of the municipality’s celebration of the 48th Nutrition Month.
The training was aimed to refresh the knowledge and skills of the BNSs on the proper provision of nutrition and health services in their respective barangays. Some of the BNSs were newly appointed by their Barangay Captains, thus, one of the reasons for the conduct of BNS Refresher Course.
IMO Lyneth Anne A. Amahit from the National Nutrition Council, NDs II Jhianne Nicole C. Tugaoen, and Chutsvieka May Pacatang of the Department of Health CVCHD, facilitated and served as resource speakers during the training. IMO Amahit also shared to the BNSs updates on the Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition.
MNAO Dr. Noelah Marie L. Akut and MMNPC Julian Ceasar V. Gomez during the closing program extended their utmost gratitude to the BNSs for sparing their time in attending the training and for their dedicated service and support for the nutrition of the people in their barangays.
Dr. Akut and Mr. Gomez also shared to the participants the ongoing project of the MNC thru the Rural Health Unit of Vallehermoso, the Healthy Valle Project which will expand the provision of health and nutrition services to the people in the community. The said project includes health and nutrition education, CVD risk assessment, lectures on family planning, consultation, implant insertion, RESBAKUNA, and giving more focus and making MAM/SAM monitoring a priority.
The MNC of Vallehermoso has a series of activities on health and nutrition programs in the pipeline for the reduction of stunting and other forms of malnutrition in the municipality. // ND II Chutsvieka May Pacatang, RND
