San Fernando, Cebu - The Municipal Nutrition Committee of San Fernando formally welcomes the nineteen (19) student-interns of the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND) for their public health nutrition exposure in the area. The activity was held on 15 August 2022.

MNPC Almira D. Tangente, NDDP Juan Viktor V. Filamor, and NDP focal person for Nutrition Florie Neil Arreglo gave their warm hospitality to the BSND interns as MNAO Dr. Alfredo P. Manugas VI delivered a speech to welcome them. BNS President Margarita E. Tumulak was also present to greet and get to know the interns. Later that day, the interns paid a courtesy call to Hon. Mytha Ann B. Canoy to seal the deal.

The San Fernando team together with CDU faculty members Ms. Joyceren Miyah Genobaña and Mr. Leo Jay D. Lumaras endorsed nineteen BSND interns to their assigned barangays namely Balud, Panadtaran, Sangat, South Poblacion, San Isidro, and Pitalo. They were then acquainted with their respective Rural Health Midwives and BNS. They concluded the day by setting their agreed-upon schedule of activities.

These students aim to finish their 300-hour exposure until October 7, 2022. Their weekly tasks include barangay level nutrition assessment, data gathering, the conduct of nutrition education classes, assisting in Barangay Nutrition Action Planning and BNC functionalization, and assistance with NNC 7’s policy, planning, and surveillance functions.  

NNC 7 is identified as one of CDU’s select partners in preparing its students in the field of public health nutrition. The agency is confident that the BSND interns would appreciate public health nutrition and get a holistic learning experience despite the challenges given by the pandemic situation. // ND II Juan Viktor V.
