Cebu City – The National Nutrition Council Region VII once again invites netizens and its followers for its monthly educational offering every third Thursday of the month dubbed Educational Health and Nutrition Information-Sharing Geared Towards Development or e-HISGOT.
“Hisgot” is a Cebuano-bisaya action word that translates to ~ discuss or ~ talk about anything at any length about something of one’s interest. Hence, the National Nutrition Council Region VII has inventively made an amplification of the term HISGOT of which has created the Facebook Live Program that involves the public in informing what are the facts and best practices towards nutrition.
Since time immemorial, a lot of us have one way or another, ideas on how food or diet works in our body. For us, food has influenced culture, tradition and even in the family. Food may be the central marker of identity which defines personality, lifestyle, and even societal roles. These practices are tweaked with the major health celebrations in the country like Goiter Awareness Week that is celebrated every January, Hypertension Awareness Month every May, the Nutrition Month Celebration, which is every July, among others.
The program is a campaign towards social behavior change focusing on the mutual queries, concerns, or problems that the general public have about our health and nutrition. Anchored and operationalized by the dedicated staff members of NNC 7, eHISGOT’s features and is centering on every month’s thematic celebration of health planned by the Department of Health and adopted by the strategies of the World Health Organization.
Another highlight of the program is hearing out a person that sends out letters to the Regional Nutrition Office that calls for help, recommendations and sometimes even actions needed to fix concerning health and nutrition. Which then will be aired Live during the program every Third Thursday of the Month. // Cebu IMO Gabe Henriel P. Sucalit, RND
