Cebu City – The nutrition community in Central Visayas once again recognized exemplary Local Government Units (LGUs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) during the recent Grand Nutrition Awards 2014 held on 08 August 2014 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, Cebu City.
Besting the other contenders, the municipality of Pamplona, Negros Oriental won as Outstanding Municipality in the Region for their 2013 performance. With the strategy of “Working together for a healthier Pamplona”, the Municipal Nutrition Committee and all members of the community have have collaborated on various programs and activities to address the malnutrition situation of the municipality which ultimately has helped the municipality in being recognized. Additionally, the municipality also won Outstanding Municipality in Negros Oriental Province for this year, which they also won last year, 2013. They received a Green Banner Award which speaks of the outstanding performance achieved by the local government unit (municipality, city, province) in its quest for nutrition improvement. The award is given to the first ranking municipality in a province, and the first ranking province/ city/municipality in the region in recognition of efficient implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition.
Carmen, Bohol was also recognized during the 2014 Grand Nutrition Awards as Outstanding Municipality in Bohol Province. Jagna, Bohol was honored for being 1st Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award Nominee, Toledo City for being a 2nd Year CROWN Maintenance Award Nominee. The CROWN Award is given to a municipality, city or province that has been adjudged by the interagency regional nutrition evaluation team as outstanding in the region in the implementation of its nutrition plan for three consecutive years.
Tubigon, Bohol was recognized for winning a national award as 2013 Nutrition Honor Awardee. Tubigon, Bohol joined the roster of Nutrition Honor Awardees in the region namely: Calape, Bohol (2000); Danao City, Cebu (2001); Talibon, Bhol (2003) and Inabanga, Bohol (2006). The Nutrition Honor Award (NHA) is given to CROWN awardees that have consistently shown outstanding performance in efforts for nutrition improvement.
With their exemplary performance in terms of their nutrition programs, these LGUs deserve the recognition and may they continue to be nutrition champions.//DFB
