Tayasan PIMAM

Tayasan, Negros Oriental - The Tayasan Nutrition Cluster identified the activation of the PIMAM Outpatient Therapeutic Care facility in the municipality as part of the preparedness for Nutrition in Emergency. PIMAM or Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition is a program of the Department of Health and is identified as one of the minimum nutrition service packages during emergencies.

It is known that during emergencies, young children are most vulnerable due to displacement, environmental conditions, and food insecurity. These conditions contribute to acute malnutrition. According to the Philippine Nutrition Cluster, a child with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) is nine times more likely to die than a well-nourished child; and a child with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) is three times more likely to die than a well-nourished child.

The health and nutrition personnel of the municipality underwent an orientation on the PIMAM program on 02 August 2022 at the Tayasan Municipal Hall. A total of 35 participants composed of midwives, nurses, and the Barangay Nutrition Scholars attended the orientation. Also present during the activity were the Municipal Health Officer/Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Dr. Myrasol P. Zuniega, PHN/Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator, Mrs. Demma Irene D. Bromo, and ND II Raya Faith Luce of DOH CV CHD/NNC 7. // IMO NegOr Lyneth Anne A. Amahit, RND
