Cebu City – Central Visayas is back to giving recognition to the region’s nutrition best in person after a two-year hiatus.
Dubbed the Grand Nutrition Awards, Central Visayas’ version of the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony provides recognition to exemplary accomplishments of local government units and the local nutrition focal points in Region VII.
The Grand Nutrition Awards this year is finally back to be a face-to-face event which happened together with 17th Regional Congress of Nutrition Action Officers on the 16th of September 2022 at Robinsons Summit Galleria Hotel, Cebu City.
This year’s awards ceremony is the first time that the Regional Nutrition Committee will give recognition to three Green Banner Seal of Compliance and Outstanding Local Nutrition Focal Persons along with sixteen (16) other awards.
It does not only showcase the performance of LGUs for a specific field in nutrition, but it also aims to share and highlight the good nutrition practices and strategies so it may serve as a baseline or starting point for other LGUs to give higher advocacy for nutrition in the Region VII. More so, it gives recognition to colleagues who retired from the service and have contributed to the face of nutrition in their respective communities.
The program preliminaries was spearheaded by the Director of the Community Extension Program of MHAM College of Medicine and the Chair of Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team Mr. Jarvis S. Prochina who presented the awardees to the media at 12NN before the actual event. The press conference also brought forth media promotion of the event to be relayed to the public.
The awarding ceremony was honorably graced by the sister of the President of the Republic of the Philippines Senator Maria Imelda Josefa Remedios “Imee” R. Marcos, who gave an inspirational message during the event. The Grand Nutrition Awards was also attended by respected leaders and nutrition stakeholders from different LGUs of Region VII.
On a lighter note, this activity is an avenue finally meet and greet again with mentors, evaluators, and colleagues who strived to scale up the nutrition program in Central Visayas. // KKB and GMF
