San Fernando, Cebu - The Municipal Nutrition Committee of San Fernando formally sent off the nineteen (19) student-interns of the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND) for their public health nutrition exposure in the area. The activity was held last 7 October 2022.
Hon. Mytha Ann B. Canoy engaged in a short talk with the interns. The BSND interns briefly discussed their accomplishments by the group. They highlighted the importance of reactivating the BNC and furnishing a complete BNAP to sustain nutrition functionality in the barangay. The interns also individually shared their experiences during their public health exposure.
NDPs Enric John Navoa, Maria Arcelyn Segovia, Hilarion Barbon II, NDDP Juan Viktor V. Filamor, CDU faculty Leo Jay D. Lumaras, and BNS president Margarita E. Tumulak were present during the culminating event.
This activity marked the end of the 300-hour exposure for the students. Their accomplishments included a barangay-level nutrition assessment, data gathering, conduct of nutrition education classes, assist in Barangay Nutrition Action Planning and BNC functionalization, and assistance to NNC 7’s policy, planning, and surveillance functions.
NNC 7 is identified as one of CDU’s select partners in preparing their students in the field of public health nutrition. The organization is confident that these future Nutritionist-Dietitians would serve as nutrition champions in the public health realm. // ND II Juan Viktor V. Filamor, RND
