Catmon, Cebu – Catmon Mayor and Chair of Municipal Nutrition Committee Hon. Avis G. Monleon conveyed her all-out support for health and nutrition in her municipality. She uttered this commitment during the town’s launch of the 38th Nutrition Month celebration.
The local chief executive who was once a barangay health worker herself can feel the challenges if health and nutrition are not on the radar of the elected mayor. She emphasized the importance for the local government unit to give the full backing and budget for the implementation of the different programs in health and nutrition.
The municipality of Catmon held a month-long observance starting with a kick-off and motorcade on 4 July participated by the different offices of the local government led by the rural health unit and DepEd. The launching program was highlighted with the different messages from the mayor, MNAO Dr. Edna L. Orlanes, and DOH DMO Ms. Cherryl Pepito. The launching activity was capped with a Zumba and mass feeding of underweight children from neighboring barangays that brought smiles to children’s and participants’ faces.
Different activities were also conducted throughout the month including nutrition and health information dissemination through social media, a cooking demo of the different food establishments in Carmen, and the month-long Zumba activities. The 2022 NM celebration culminated with awarding ceremony that recognized the winners of cooking contests and other competitions that centered on this year’s nutrition month theme ‘New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon!
