San Miguel, Bohol – The Barangays Nutrition Committee (BNC) of Barangay of Cambangay Norte in this landlocked municipality conducted Idol ko si Nanay learning sessions. The first session was held on 24 October 2022 in the barangay’s covered court with 20 participants, consisting of pregnant and lactating mothers. The first session was facilitated by RHM Mrs. Florentina B. Fernandez and Nurse II, Gemma D. Luzon.
Idol Ko si Nanay is one of the activities of the BNC included in their Barangay Nutrition Action Plan. BNC Chair and Punong Barangay, Hon. Roger B. Ibaoc spearheaded the activity assisted by the BNS Celerina Bregente, BHWs, and other barangay officials.
Idol Ko Si Nanay Learning Sessions is one of the Early Childhood Care and Development - First 1000 Days Program (ECCD-F1KD) services. Its key component is the conduct of nutrition education for women planning to get pregnant, pregnant, and lactating women to promote improved infant and young child feeding practices.
Barangay Cambangay Norte is just one of the barangays in San Miguel that initiates this nutrition education session. This is an ongoing activity encouraged by the Municipal Nutrition Committee of San Miguel for all 18 barangays in the municipality
During the activity, the participants gladly cooperated with all the learning session activities. According to BNS Bregente, the mothers said that they were excited to gain more knowledge as a parent and were also excited to graduate as a student.
The BNC thru the barangay officials plans to give tokens of participation to all attendees who can complete the learning sessions. After each session, the health and nutrition workers especially the breastfeeding support groups follow up with the participants thru house visitation to track the progress of their learning. Findings during home visits would also be considered in the next session to ensure the grasp and application of key nutrition concepts to their families. ND II Annie Claire B. Añasco, RND
