Cebu City – Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Rep. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan graced the 9th Regional Congress of district, city, and municipal nutrition program coordinators in Central Visayas. The event which carried the theme "Nutrition Program i-Champion, stunting sa rehiyon sulbaron!" took place on 21 October 2022 at Cebu Parklane International Hotel in Cebu City.
Chan said that nutrition is close to her heart as children and women is one of her priority programs represented by the acronym CINDI, which stands for “Children, women, elderly and PWDs,” “Infrastructure,” “New Normal in Tourism,” “Dialysis Center,” and “Institutionalization of Micro Finance Programs and Access to Capital to Support Small and Medium Enterprises.”
The congress was organized by the Nutrition Program Coordinators’ Association of Region VII (NPCAR 7) Inc. in partnership with the National Nutrition Council Region VII. Attended by forty-four association members, the activity aimed to increase the knowledge and skills of local program coordinators to optimize the opportunities brought about by the LGU’s increased fiscal resources for nutrition gains.
Three technical discussions delivered by experts in their fields were feasted upon by the attendees. The first topic, “Creating plantilla positions for the nutrition program: Cebu City Experience”, was presented by Mr. Ronald O. Diola, Chair Representative of the Cebu City Nutrition Committee. His topic has inspired local nutrition workers on how to utilize existing legislations to create nutrition positions in their LGUs. Next was the lecture by the Division Chief of Field Operations, of the Department of Agriculture, Dr. Gerry S. Avila, with the topic, “How local nutrition program coordinators can contribute to local food security?” which provided ways to ensure that food is always on the table of every Filipino family. Lastly, the topic “Developing your presentation skills” was expounded by Mr. Harby O. Abellanosa, the Chief Nursing Officer of Cebu South Medical Center who shared tips on how to clearly deliver the message across esp. to his/her target audience.
NPCAR 7, Inc. is the official association of district, city, and municipal nutrition program coordinators in Central Visayas. The organization commits to advocating and conducting concrete actions to help improve the nutritional well-being of Filipinos specifically in the region. // KKB
