202 Importance NutritionCLusterCebu CityIn response to nutrition disasters or emergencies, the cluster approach is one of the efforts adopted by the government for emergency response and preparedness in relation to malnutrition. These nutrition clusters focus on the preparation and effective response for preventing the worsening of malnutrition when the calamity arises.

One of the nutrition clusters' main concerns during an emergency is the vulnerable groups that include infants, children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, older persons, persons with disabilities, and people with debilitating conditions who are more prone to undernutrition due to certain constraints as disaster results in.

Nutrition clusters are meant to contribute and coordinate to protect the nutritional status of the vulnerable population. And that includes infants, children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, older persons, persons with disabilities, and people with debilitating conditions.

It is also the Nutrition Cluster’s task to develop a contingency plan for nutrition interventions for both preventive and curative measures. A community engagement strategy together with a work plan, and tools makes clusters prove their worth.

Nutrition Clusters' presence has to be amplified with a fully functional information management system, and that includes employing modern technology as well as utilizing access to the internet e.g. social media, in relation to the involvement of preparedness response and rehabilitation of the general public in times of emergencies and disasters. // DMO II Gab Flores, RND
