Cebu City – Dr. Parolita A. Mission, NNC 7 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator encouraged the different Development Management Officers in the provinces of Cebu and Negros Oriental to help enhance their LGUs’ respective local nutrition action plans (LNAP).
This was done during the Philippine Multi-sectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) Technical Discussion held on 22-23 November 2022 at the Sarrosa International Hotel, Cebu City. Organized by the Department of Health CV CHD, the said activity was attended by 12 Development Management Officers (DMOs) from Cebu and Negros Oriental Province.
In her technical discussion on “Enhancing the Local Nutrition Action Plan”, Dr. Mission emphasized that malnutrition cannot be solved by one sector alone. Thus, a collaborative effort of all sectors at all levels is much needed. According to her, crafting an LNAP does not end in plan preparation alone but rather it includes the integration of nutrition into local development plans and budgets. This is to ensure that the LGU’s nutrition programs, projects, and activities will surely be implemented. Like the PMNP project, LNAP is a multisectoral local plan, and this is the strength that should be enhanced in enabling active LGU participation and ownership of PMNP inputs.
The said meeting was part of the preparatory activities of Phase 1 of the program implementation which aims to further equip the personnel involved in the project management and deepen their understanding and accountability to wholistically carry out the project deliverables.
Discussions on specific tasks on managing the day-to-day implementation, coordination and cooperation, communication, procurement, financial management, and monitoring and evaluation of field operations were also elaborated during the meeting.
DOH CV CHD, DSWD RFO 7, NNC 7, and the local government units will soon meet to conduct an LGU orientation to plan the other preparatory activities for the signing of the memorandums of agreement to ultimately seal the project implementation.
