2022 Samboan MIYCN TrainingSamboan, Cebu – The municipality of Samboan in coordination with the Cebu Province Nutrition Committee conducted a Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition training on 14-16 November 2022 held at the Samboan Session Hall, Municipal Hall, Samboan, Cebu.

The training was conducted to organize, strengthen and mobilize Infant Young Child Feeding community support groups of peer counseling of pregnant women and mothers with 0-2 years old children, caregivers or guardians, and those who plan of becoming a mother. It is important training for nutrition workers to strengthen and capacitate those who will conduct nutrition education classes among families in the community.

The 3-day training was attended by all 15 Barangay Nutrition Scholars, 15 Barangay Health workers (1 from each barangay), all Rural Health Midwives and RHMPP, and all Nurses under the Nurses Deployment Program. Ms. Sheila Awing and Ms. Loreza Lapinid of Cebu PNC served as resource persons during the training. The topics discussed include the importance of health and nutrition of the mother and child in the First 1000 Days, Maternal Health and Nutrition, Recommended Infant Young Child Nutrition Practices: Breastfeeding, Maternal Infant and Young Child related policies, How to counsel on Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition. During the training, videos were presented to give a better look at the tips and practices to be done for Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition. The participants were also tasked to play scenarios that are likely to happen during Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition classes and peer counseling. // ND II, Bea Margaux E. Cornelia, RND
