2022 Dec19 LatterSaintsTalisay City, Cebu - The Child Nutrition Program was launched at Talisay Philippines Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) on 22 October 2022. LDS is one of the members of the Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance in Central Visayas.

The program aims to determine the nutritional status of the church children aged 0 to 60 months and identify and eradicate malnutrition in the locality. The nutrition program makes interventions to bring every child to a healthy status. The interventions aim to educate parents and expectant parents, especially mothers on the importance of proper nutrition for mothers and children.

The event was in partnership with the National Nutrition Council Region VII and the Local Government Unit of Talisay City, Cebu. The collaboration aimed to bring families together to a healthy status and educate them on the effects of malnutrition in the family and in turn help them implement solutions to address the problem.

Mr. Luis C. Manoel, Senior Manager of the Church Humanitarian Services, highlighted that “it takes a village to raise a child, and miracles happen when a community works together”. He added, “the healthy future of society depends on the health of today's children and their mothers.”

Thirty-nine (39) children between the ages of 0 to 5 months participated in the Child Nutrition Program of the Church, along with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Parents and guardians were also able to avail the of free medical services such as blood pressure testing and vitamins and deworming tablets were distributed to the participants.

The event was also graced by Barangay Tabunok, Barangay Captain, Hon. Benjie A. Cabigas wherein he appreciated the Church initiative and looks forward to working alongside the local Barangay in providing spiritual and physical nourishment.
