Baclayon, Bohol – The Municipal Nutrition Committee of Baclayon conducted an Idol Ko si Nanay training on 19-20 December 2022 at the Barangay Hall of Barangay Poblacion.
Attended by 31 BNSs and BHWs, the training aims to capacitate health and nutrition workers to implement Idol Ko si Nanay sessions in their barangays to contribute to the MNC’s goal of reducing the prevalence of nutritionally at-risk pregnant women; plummeting the prevalence of stunting and wasting/thinness among children 0-23 months old, and achieve age-appropriate developmental milestones for its 0-23 months old children in the community.
The Idol ko si Nanay training was spearheaded by the municipal mayor and MNC Chair, Hon. A. Alvin Uy, and funded by the municipal health office led by Mr. Justin Paul Roa, PHD. Ms. Ardin Abrea, Ms. Glenda Papelares, and Ms. Kristine Vano of the Bohol Provincial Nutrition Committee facilitated the 2-day training.
The organizers hope that after the session, the BNS and BHW attendees will be able to teach mothers and caregivers how to take charge of the nutrition of their children especially in the First 1000 days by empowering them to make important choices.
According to the National Nutrition Council, the first 1,000 days of life is the most important period for both mothers and their children. According to recent scientific research, good nutrition should begin throughout the first 1,000 days of a kid's life, from conception until the child is two years old, in order to prevent the early beginning of malnutrition. The first 1000 days are regarded as the prime time to seize opportunities. Complete maternal and child health treatments during this time can have a significant impact on a person's entire life, especially on their capacity to develop, learn, and work.
