La Libertad, Negros Oriental – The Municipal Nutrition Committee of La Libertad through Mayor Emmanuel Limkaichong Iway, together with the Department of Education implements the Dietary Supplementation/Feeding Program. A free lunch is provided to all identified undernourished and severely undernourished kindergarten and elementary students of the municipality.
Funded by the municipality of La Libertad, the program was started in November 2022 when full face-to-face classes resumed. The LGU-funded DSP complemented DepEd’s
Supplementary Feeding Program which started in January 2022, was also the start of the limited face-to-face classes.
According to Dr. Adela Araula, DepEd La Libertad District 1 Supervisor, the initiative of Mayor Emmanuel Iway is a great help not just to the students but to all the parents as well since they can save from the food expenses of their children. According to Dr. Araula “As always, DepEd specifically La Libertad District 1, school heads, teachers, learners, and parents are indebted to you (Mayor Iway) with this Supplementary Feeding Program. We hope that you will always continue this program for the growth and development of our learners as their preparation for life”.
The MNC of La Libertad through Chair and Mayor Iway continues to make efforts to improve the health and nutritional status of all its constituents especially the children. Also with the willingness, determination, and full participation of all the people involved in the improvement of the nutrition program and other nutrition-related activities in the municipality, all the target groups or individuals especially the children will be able to experience a healthy community. // ND II Chutsvieka May Pacatang, RND
