2022 Dec25 PIMAM NegrosDumaguete City – The Department of Health Central Visayas - Center for Health Development (DOH CV-CHD) conducted a Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) training on 13-15 September 2022 at the Dumaguete Royal Suite Inn. Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. The training was attended by 28 participants mostly Municipal Health Officers, Public Health Nurses, Nutritionist-Dietitians, and Midwives from different participating local government units in the province.

PIMAM is one of the core lifesaving interventions that provide quality treatment and management of children with severe and moderate acute malnutrition within the broader range of interventions and approaches addressing all the forms of undernutrition. This evidence-based treatment involves and relies on a strong community component.

Through DOH A.O. No. 2015-0055 which is the National Guidelines on the Management of Acute Malnutrition for Children under 5 years, everyone in the health sector will be equipped with the proper knowledge and skills on how to carefully manage our Moderately Acute Malnourished children (MAM) and Severely Acute Malnourished children (SAM) in the community and hospital setting.

The activity was facilitated by Nutritionist-Dietitian (ND) IV Fredric Carl L. Te, ND II Teresito M. Caayaman III both from DOH CV-CHD, DNPCs Antonieta Delfino and Marian Rose Abella, both from Negros Oriental Provincial Health Office/Provincial Nutrition Committee Secretariat. The training was also attended by two (2) guest speakers: Medical Specialist I Dr. Anna Marie Yap and ND III Ronna Rose Gomez-Asonio of Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital who discussed the In-patient Therapeutic Care and PIMAM Protocols in the hospital setting, respectively.

All participants from the said training were also encouraged to cascade the training to their local health and nutrition workers at the barangay level since they play an integral part in our PIMAM program. Together we can save millions of children who may die from a cause that we have the power to prevent and treat. //ND II Teresito M. Caayaman III, RND
