MIND 7 members with RNET TeamCebu City – Members of MIND 7 or the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7, the media partner of NNC 7 will join this year’s Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and Search for Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS). This was agreed upon by the officers and members during its Program Implementation Review so they could observe first-hand how these LGUs implement the nutrition program.

MELLPI aims to assess the efficiency of local level implementation, as indicated by the outreach of activities undertaken relative to the plan, funds expended and management support given by local chief executives and other implementing agencies; measures changes in weights status of preschool and school children during evaluation; determine the extent to which nutrition is integrated into local development plans; and advocate for continuing support for local nutrition programs. A yearly activity, the interagency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) will visit the 16 cities and around 3 to 5 municipalities from the 4 provinces in the region to look on how these LGUs implement the nutrition program in their respective areas. Activities done during these visit include review of records, re-weighing of children and dialogue with the local chief executives, BNSs and mothers.

This year, the RNET started the region-wide nutrition program monitoring and evaluation and evaluates nominees for ROBNS on 30 March 2014. The earlier schedule of RNET visits was decided during the RNET meeting held on 14 March 2014 at DOH – CHD 7 Library, Cebu City. According to RNET Chair and DSWD 7 ND IV, Ms. Melinda D. Cañares, “we need to start early to cover all cities and provinces, review results and come up with winners in time for the Regional Nutrition Committee Full Committee meeting in July 2014”.

The evaluation would continue until the month of June. The LGUs who have shown exemplary implementation and outstanding nutrition workers would be recognized during this year’s Grand Nutrition Awards 2014. // DFB
