2022 Dec25 BNSCongressMandaue City – The Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars Association of Region VII (FeBaNuSA 7, Inc) and the National Nutrition Council Region VII (NNC 7) resume the annual face-to-face regional congress with the biggest delegates since its organization in 2004.

An astounding total of 1,973 registered participants joined the 18th Regional Congress of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) on 03-04 November 2022 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex, Mandaue City, Cebu.

With the theme “BNS: Serbisyong pangnutrisyon, ipadayon sa bag-ong panahon!”, the two-day activity enabled BNSs to be updated on current issues affecting the performance of their functions to help improve the nutrition well-being of their communities thru the application of core nutrition strategies identified in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2023-2025. The event also served as a venue to discuss organizational concerns regarding the Regional BNS Federation.

The said conference was graced by Mandaue City Vice-Mayor Hon. Glenn Ouano Bercede, City Councilor Hon. Nerissa Corazon Soon-Ruiz, and Cebu Province 6th district provincial board member Hon. Glenn Anthony O. Soco.

NNC 7 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Parolita A. Mission who served as the keynote speaker, congratulated the federation for always producing an outstanding regional congress every year. She also thanked all the BNSs and members of the local nutrition committees who attended the event. According to her, they are the ones who make the event a success. Furthermore, she emphasized the important role of each BNS in making sure that no Filipino children are malnourished.

The activity highlighted technical discussions on the roles of the BNSs in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028, skill enhancement of BNSs: updates on the BNAP, and establishing a food secure barangay.

Delivery of nutrition interventions from pandemic to epidemic paradigm was also shared by Tagbilaran City BNS Association President and two-time Regional Outstanding BNS (ROBNS) awardee Ms. Juanita R. Hinay, while Budlaan BNC shared a personal experience on managing the nutrition program in the barangay level.

FeBaNuSA 7, Inc. also initiated the organization’s general assembly with the presentation of their accomplishments for the past three years as reflected in the president’s report shared by President BNS Lopito B. Patrimonio, and the treasurer’s report by BNS Lucia C. Arellano.

The two-day event ended by recommencing the association’s annual Mutya ng BNS of which Cebu City BNS Maria Eldie M. Gelbore was hailed the 2022 grand winner. // DMO II Norre Jean V. delos Santos
