La Libertad, Negros Oriental – The Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) of La Libertad through the Rural Health Unit assisted their Barangay Nutrition Committees to produce their Barangay Nutrition Action Plans (BNAPs) through the conduct of a workshop on Enhancing Nutrition Action Plans and Budget in the Barangay level. The planning workshop was held on 22-23 November and 01-02 December 2022 at the Lalimar Beach Resort, La Libertad, Negros Oriental. The two batches of BNC workshops were attended by 47 participants composed of Barangay Captains, Barangay Councilor on Health, Barangay Nutrition Action Officers, Barangay Treasurers, Rural Health Midwives, and Barangay Nutrition Scholars/Health Workers from the 29 barangays in the municipality.
Nutritionist-Dietitians II Chutsvieka May Pacatang, Jhianne Mae Nicole C. Tugaoen, Shaira Vita A. Calumpang, and Raya Faith A. Luce from DOH CVCHD/NNC 7 provided technical assistance, and served as resource speakers during the said workshop.
Through the planning workshops, the BNCs were able to formulate their BNAPs. The sessions also gave an opportunity for the Barangay Nutrition Committee members to understand how important nutrition is not only to children and other target groups or individuals but to all the people in the community as well.
The presentation of formulated BNAPs from randomly selected barangays and/or volunteer barangays capped the session. With the exercise, the participants were able to appreciate the importance of prioritizing the nutrition program and ensure that there are enough investments for the nutrition programs, projects, and activities in the municipality and barangays. // ND II Chutsvieka May Pacatang, RND
