2022 Dec30 MUACBohol Province - According to the World Health Organization (WHO), malnutrition refers to deficiencies or excesses in nutrient intake, an imbalance of essential nutrients, or impaired nutrient utilization.

The double burden of malnutrition consists of both undernutrition and overnutrition, as well as diet-related noncommunicable diseases. Undernutrition manifests in three broad ways: wasting, stunting, underweight, and micronutrient deficiencies while overnutrition can be classified as overweight and obesity.

Weight Loss, Slow Weight Gain, or Underweight
Different children acquire weight at various rates. It's time to consult your child's doctor if they are having trouble gaining weight or are really losing it. It is not sufficient to simply look at your kid to detect malnutrition. An overweight offspring may also be undernourished.

Not Growing Longer or Taller
Since each child develops at a distinct rate, your kid should be doing the same. If your child is not outgrowing his/her clothes, malnutrition may be the cause.

Eating Less Than Usual
When your child is eating, keep an eye on him/her. They may be in danger of malnutrition if they just nibble or take a few bites before pushing food away.

Not Eating Well Due to Stomach Problems
It could be tough for your kid to eat healthy if they have stomach issues. When they claim they are unable to eat anything at all, see a doctor immediately.

Less Active or Less Playful
Each day,  a child develops and picks up new skills. Speak with a healthcare professional if your kid is sleeping more or is less active than usual. DMO II Jenelyn A. Guillena
