Cebu City – Leadership is one of the vital parts of a successful program or advocacy. Defined as the technique whereby a leader or individual persuades a group of people to work toward a common objective, leadership is known to be both a relationship and a process. This 2023, LGUs are looking forward to a fresh and new beginning to continually improve their health and nutrition implementation.
As a process, leadership includes not just the leader himself/herself but also his/her followers, and the situation itself. Different leadership philosophies are required for various situations and types of followers. But how does one become a good leader?
According to the NNC’s Nutrition Program Management (NPM) Manual, a nutrition worker has a special type of leading spelled as Leadersheep: The term highlights the four “E’s” which stand for the characteristics of a good leader.
- The first ‘E’ is for ENERGY. This means that one should have personal energy and should be action-oriented.
- The second ‘E’ stands for ENERGIZE. You should be skilled in inspiring and involving others, as well as energizing the workforce to enhance organizational potential.
- The third ‘E’ is EDGE. A leader should be driven by competition, have a strong sense of momentum, and be bold in their advocacy.
- Lastly, a good leader should EXECUTE. A good track record of producing results while upholding values is essential for a leader. He or she should be eager to go above and beyond what is required of them.
With the existing flow of supervision/leadership at different administrative levels from the national to the barangay, keep in mind these tips that come in handy to jumpstart the nutrition program in your LGUs.
