Danao City – As leaders of their respective local associations, Barangay Nutrition Scholar presidents from provinces and cities in Central Visayas are expected to lead by example, one of which is being able to get an award as an outstanding barangay nutrition scholar.
Thus, born the idea of BNSs president mentoring activity during the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars’ Association (FeBaNuSA) 7 Inc. 4th Q meeting held on 01-02 December 2023 at the Danao Intosan Resort, Danao City.
While the region has a multitude of active, hardworking, and intelligent barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), there has been a limited number of BNSs who have been given recognition because of their exemplary work and in recent years. There has been a drought of BNSs able to be nominated for national evaluations.
As role models of BNSs in their areas and with the majority of the presidents having been awarded as outstanding BNSs in the past, the presidents have agreed to take on a mentoring activity as a major project in the 2023 FeBaNuSA 7 Inc. work and financial plan to increase candidates for outstanding BNSs in the region.
Contrary to previous mentoring activities, FeBaNuSA 7 Inc. agreed this time around to have a more structured mentoring scheme based on the MELLPI tool for the BNSs and to incorporate follow-up activities.
At the same time, FeBaNuSA 7 Inc. also plans to include an online BNS course through a Nutrition School on Air slated in July this year. These efforts are only but a few of the endeavors planned by the association to strengthen BNS capacities for better nutrition program implementation in the region. // NO III Nasudi G. Soluta, RND
