Cebu City – With the aim to reach the Millennium Development Goals, NNC 7 conducted meetings with its nutrition network in the region ranging from the different regional line agencies to the Local Government Units.
NNC 7 held the 1st Semester meeting with the Regional Nutrition Committee – Technical Working Group (RNC – TWG) on 28 January 2014 at the Rajah Park Hotel, FuenteOsmena, Cebu City. The TWG is the technical arm of the Regional Nutrition Committee. The RNC, as mandated by law is the highest policy making and coordinating body for nutrition in the region.In attendance were focal persons from fromDOH, DA, DepEd, DOST, PopCom and Feed the Children Phil. and representatives from Bohol and Siquijor. Discussed during the meeting were2013 RNC Accomplishment, Updated Regional Strategic Plan and RNC Workplan for 2014. The body agreed the alignment of the RNC vision and mission with NNC, modification of annual targets, the cities of Carcar and Talisay and at least 3 NDMs per province will be prioritized in providing technical assistance, MELLPI teams and schedule and 2014 Nutrition Month activities.
NNC 7 also convened the 1st Regional Management Conference for 2014 on 29 to 30 January 2014 at the Hotel Fortuna, Borromeo St., Cebu City which was hosted by the City of Cebu thru its Cebu City Nutrition Committee. This institutionalized Management Conference provides policy and program directions to the P/CNAOs in the region. In attendance were 32 P/CNAOs and D/CNPCs coming from the provinces of Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental and Siquijor and cities of Bais, Canlaon, Carcar, Cebu, Danao, Dumaguete, Guihulngan, Mandaue, Naga, and Tanjay. Discussed during the meeting were 2013 PPAN Accomplishment Report/Program Implementation Review and concerns along nutrition policy and planning, nutrition surveillance, nutrition information and education and nutrition capability building.
The Central Visayas Association of Nutrition Action officers (CeVANAO 7), the organization of nutrition action officers, and the Nutrition Program Coordinators Association of Region VII (NPCAR 7), the organization of the D/CNPCs, also had their respective meeting on 30 January 2014. CNAO Ma. Elizabeth Sedilloof Tanjay city and DNPC Juliet Manliguez of Bohol province,presidents of respective organizations presided the meeting. CeVANAO discussed their 10th Regional NAO Congress, tapping BUB and other possible funding windows for nutrition and training needs of NAOs. NPCAR 7 on the other hand tackled reporting system and forms, MELLPI & BNS evaluation, 2nd Regional Congress and organizational concerns including its official name & logo. With the conduct of regular meetings, the different nutrition organizations and networks will be more vibrant contributing to better management of the nutrition program in Region VII leading to the improvement of the nutrition status of target groups in the region. /DFB
