DSP is one of the interventions of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 to help reduce stunting. The program aims to supplement the diets of nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and 6-23 months old children particularly those from food insecure and poor households.

Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot said that the program beneficiaries are the pregnant women in the first trimester who are nutritionally vulnerable, as well as pregnant women regardless of nutritional status, and children aged 6 to 23 months. Provincial Nutritionist-Dietitian II Ms. Glenda Grafilo also shared that the  Provincial Nutrition Committee distributed the commodities to the different municipalities included in the program. She further added that the municipalities selected are those local governments not covered by the National Nutrition Council’s Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program (TKSP) so that all the areas in the province will be covered.

In both TKSP and DSP, the National Nutrition Council Region VII calls on all LGUs to ensure sustainability of the program in your locality by passing local ordinance to guarantee its budget allocation, link with local producers for source of food commodities, implement supplementary feeding program with food gardening and nutrition education and involve the community through cash transfers or food deliveries and other modalities, among others. // DMO II Jenelyn A.
