Antequera, Bohol - The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) of Antequera, Bohol conducted a BNS outreach project in Barangay Bicahan this municipality on 23 January 2023. With the theme “BNS padayong nagpakabana sa mga buntis alang sa maayong panglawas ug kaugmaon sa kabataan”, the outreach activity included a health and nutrition education session for mothers and caregivers of children below 5 years old, and distribution of eggs and milk to pregnant and lactating women. Toys were also provided to children-attendees which gave sparkle to their eyes. More than 50 mothers and children were able to avail said services.

Topics discussed included the Importance first 1000 days facilitated by DOH CV CHD ND II Sarah Belle Antiola, Preventing Child Injuries by Barangay Kagawad and VAWC focal Leonora Quimson, and the Importance of Immunization by Midwife II Rosemarie Gementiza.

MNC Chairman and Municipal Mayor Hon. Jose Mario J. Pahang, MNAO Mrs. Tarcisia R. Baluca, MNPC Mrs. Isabel Jaculba, DNPC Ms. Kristine Vaño, BNC Chairman and Barangay Captain of Barangay Bicahan Hon. Renario Porlares joined the activity. Punong Barangay Porlares thanked the BNSs for conducting the activity in their barangay. According to him the initiative will help his barangay reduce the prevalence of stunting of which is on top in the entire town.

The BNS outreach activity was closed with a raffle draw where four (4) winners took home 1 kg of chicken each. The participating mothers were incredibly happy as they left the site loaded with prizes and a lot of learnings. // ND II Sarah Belle I. Antiola, RND
