February2023 Good PracticesCebu City – During the discussions of the first Regional Management Conference (Regional ManCon) held on 26-27 January 2023 at St. Mark Hotel, the nutrition movers of the local government units (LGUs) in Central Visayas were able to share their best practices for nutrition during the sessions.

Nutrition Officer III Ms. Delia E. Serion of Dumaguete City highlighted the support of the City’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office in funding the requirements for Nutrition in Emergency training of all barangays of the city. She further prided the nutrition interventions they are employing to all city hall employees of Dumaguete City to prevent and/or reduce the incidence of non-communicable diseases now threatening the government workers in this City of Gentle People.

City Nutrition Program Coordinator of Bogo City Ms. Rashelle S. Bentulan on the other hand touted their LGU’s approach to roll out the Idol Ko si Nanay (IKSN) to all barangays. A budget allocation ranging from Php 5,000-20,000 is given to each barangay as the city’s counterpart for their conduct of IKSN. A documentation report of the roll-out sessions is then required from the Barangay Nutrition Committee for the subsequent release of counterpart assistance.

Bohol province’s District Nutrition Program Coordinator (DNPC) Ms. Glenda G. Grafilo shared the province’s cash incentives to municipalities who have fully implemented IKSN with proper documentation as support. The province will also expand the Barangay First 1000 Days (BF1KD) implementation province-wide. She also hyped the Provincial Nutrition Code now under review for approval by the Sanggunang Panlalawigan.

These were just some of the best practices promoted during the conference. The sharing session is an integral part of the Regional Mancon for the participating LGUs to gather insights into nutrition PPAs they can emulate. The session further inspired other program managers to pursue the practices in their communities seeing it’s impact on improving the nutrition landscape in the areas these PPAs are implemented. // DMO II Christine Lopez, RND
