Mandaue City – The Mandaue City Nutrition Committee (CNC) through the Mandaue City Nutrition Office launched the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program on 16 February 2023, in three (3) selected barangays of the city, namely Basak, Looc, and Umapad, having a total of 150 beneficiaries. The City Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms Josephine Aniñon together with the nutrition focal persons from the city spearheaded the launching event with the active involvement of the Barangay Nutrition Committee of barangays where the program is implemented.
The CNC of Mandaue joined the simultaneous commencement of Phases 3 and 4 of said program initiated by the National Nutrition Council Region VII in the 4 provinces of Central Visayas. TKSP aims to prevent stunting among children 0-23 months old through the promotion of good nutrition. This can be achievable through the provision of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) and First 1000 Days services among nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and children below 2 years of age, especially targeting areas with high malnutrition rates.
The regional launching was aired live during NNC 7’s online program e-HISGOT which highlighted the remote broadcast of the program’s kickoff in the provinces of Negros Oriental, Bohol, and Cebu.
The event in Mandaue City was held at the Rural Health Unit of Brgy. Looc which was attended by twelve (12) caregivers and mothers of the beneficiaries. There was a brief orientation on the program, and an introduction to the commodities to be used for dietary supplementation. Also present at the launching were the Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and the Barangay Health Workers, who are recognized as important people with key responsibilities during the implementation process of the program.
The City Nutrition Office, with the ultimate goal to promote good health and nutrition for everyone, encourages the participation and cooperation of the selected beneficiaries and the active involvement of the barangay officials and health personnel for the successful implementation of the program. // DMO II Patricia B.
