Bohol Province – The Bohol Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) launched the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program Phase 3 on 16 February 2023 simultaneously with the other provinces in Central Visayas. The launching event was conducted in collaboration with municipal LGUs included in the program.
Bohol province particularly the municipalities of Alburquerque, Baclayon, Bien Unido, Buenavista, Corella, Danao, Garcia Hernandez, Guindulman, Lila, Panglao, Pilar, Sikatuna, and Tubigon are included in the 180 days feeding program which is expected to improve the nutritional status of 780 children from these municipalities.
TKSP is a program implemented by the National Nutrition Council in partnership with selected LGUs in the country. It aims to prevent stunting among 6-23 months old children by improving the quality and quantity of food intakes and utilization of related Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) first 1000 days (F1kD) services for nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and children 6-23 months old in the target Tutok Kainan program areas. Children aged 6 to 23 months are the intended recipients of the program for Phases 3 and 4, with the priority group being those who are stunted, wasted, borderline undernourished, and have normal nutritional status.
During the launch, program implementers reoriented the beneficiaries of the main objective of the program and the feeding scheme. Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Barangay Health Workers measured the children's weight and height before the children were given their allocation of RIMO for that day. The launching program was in full blast with the active involvement of the municipal and barangay nutrition committees in these areas.
The PNC is positive that with the program executed in Bohol along with the locally-funded dietary supplementation program of the province, its goal of reducing stunting and other forms of malnutrition including micronutrient deficiencies will be realized. // DMO II Jenelyn A. Guillena
