Cebu City – Back to back with the 12th Regional Nutrition Action Officers’ Congress, the National Nutrition Council Region VII and the Regional Nutrition Committee award outstanding LGUs and nutrition champions during the Grand Nutrition Awards 2016 at the City Sports Club Cebu, Cebu City on 12 August 2016.
The event was taken part by 328 attendees with 44 awardees from eight (8) award categories given namely the Green Banner Awards as Outstanding City and Municipality in the Region, Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars (City, Provincial and Regional), Best Nutrition Practice/Project Awards, Breastfeeding Photo Contest Awards, Complementary Food Preparation Video Contest Awards, and Best Provincial/City/Municipal Facebook Page. RNC also gives recognition to Model Barangays for their IYCF Community Support Groups and Pabasa Sa Nutrisyon Awardees. Recognized were the following winners:

Pamplona, Negros Oriental - A nutrition champion since the very start, the Municipal Nutrition Committee of Pamplona in the Province of Negros Oriental has long been one of the forerunners of infant and young child feeding in the region as it has been consistently pushing for community changes that enhance the ease of living of vulnerable groups most especially mothers and their children.

Cebu – A total of 42 local chief executives in the municipalities of Tuburan and Dalaguete, Cebu gave their commitment and pledge their support for the implementation of the Early Childhood Care and Development Intervention Package for the First 1000 Days (ECCD/IP F1K) during the recently conducted Policy Forum as a segment of the ECCD Caravan held in the Municipality of Tuburan and Dalaguete on 28 and 29 July 2016 respectively.
Aiming to gather support of local chief executives, the policy forum was added to the ECCD Caravan as a breakaway session to come up with sustainable actions in support of the ECCD-IP /First 1000 Days Implementation as well as generate counterpart funds for the program and for other nutrition and nutrition-sensitive interventions for the municipalities implementing the program.

Canlaon City, Negros Oriental - A smorgasbord of sustainable nutrition and nutrition-sensitive interventions is what the Canlaon City Nutrition Committee has in store for the community in their second year of attempting to be the Central Visayas’s Outstanding City – and apparently, it has worked. The secret? A mega-dose of supportive barangay nutrition committees and enthusiastic barangay health and nutrition workers has done wonders on the sustainability of programs and projects initiated by the City Nutrition Committee.

Cebu Province – In celebration of the 42nd Nutrition Month, the Cebu Provincial Nutrition Committee (CPNC) launched the month-long observance with a Forum focusing on the 1st 1000 days of life of the child, meaning; from conception until the child reaches two years old. This was held on July 7, 2016 at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall, Cebu City. The forum emphasized the importance and power of the first 1000 Days, globally considered as the “golden window of opportunity” for interventions that aim to achieve maximum potential of a child’s growth and development. Capitol employees, health workers and BNSs all over the province attended the forum.

Bohol Province – NNC 7 gives tribute to the success of the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon (PSN) awardees along with the other regional winners during its 2016 Grand Nutrition Awards held on 12 August 2016 at the City Sports Club Cebu, Cebu City. The Province of Bohol sweeps 15 out of the 34 awards given by the Phil. Association of Nutrition in 2016 nationwide and 15 out of 16 in the region.
Of those who have successfully finished the PSN, 3 out of 15 municipalities in Bohol province have maintained an efficient and effective implementation for 4 years namely: Lila, Pilar and Alicia and received the “Hall of Fame award”. The remaining 12 municipalities: Alburquerque, Batuan, Bilar, Clarin, Guindulman, Inabanga, Mabini, Sikatuna, Sierra Bullones, San Miguel, Talibon and Trinidad had completed the minimum requirements in the implementation and received the award. Bohol province was also recognized as “Consistent Pabasa sa Nutrisyon Award Producer” during the said 2016 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony since this was first launched in 2003.
