Pilar, Bohol – The Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) of this 4th class interior town of Bohol strengthen their implementation of the Local Nutrition Early Warning System - Food Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) as they rekindle their journey in creating and maintaining this system in their municipality.
The LNEWS – FNS is a tool and a process for the city or municipality to identify, discuss, and analyze any existing, emerging, or impending problems that threaten food and nutrition security. It enables department heads and local chief executives to come together to identify, plan, and allocate resources for actions and provide responses to address food security issues in their locality. This is a form of monitoring and analysis of relevant information that may foretell a possible crisis such as a food shortage or health problems. It is the regular and periodic collection of relevant data (e.g., food production, climate, food prices, etc.) to determine the status of food supply and food security in the city or municipality.
Pilar MNC started the LNEWS-FNS on 9 September 2019. At that time, a consultative workshop was held at the Bohol Rice Processing Center Building, Poblacion, Pilar, Bohol, facilitated by the National Nutrition Council Region VII, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Dr. Parolita A. Cebu City – More than ever especially nowadays weight loss is something individuals who exceed their ideal weight try to involve themselves with and go to unnecessary efforts to achieve their desired weight. Although protein diets have been there for a while as a strategy for body weight management, there are still other aspects in the macronutrient protein for it to be beneficial for weight loss.
Protein or sometimes referred to as CHON by its chemical structure by Nutritionists or Dietitians is one of the macronutrients essential for our body's overall physiological and functional needs.
Protein is mostly known for its role in body repair or muscle synthesis which in itself supports weight loss by its involvement in lean body mass affecting metabolism rate.

Cebu City – Body mass index (BMI) is commonly used to classify an individual's body weight. However, in the case of athletes or resistance exercise enthusiasts, who may have a high body weight due to higher lean body mass, BMI may lead to the misclassification of the athlete as overweight or obese.
As a normal BMI is between 18.5 – 24.9 kg/m² any number that exceeds the normal BMI range will either be classified as overweight or obese. And there can be multiple causes as to why an individual will exceed the ideal BMI for his/her height.
As BMI classification applies to the general population, it is commonly associated that heavier weight is likely due to excess/abundance of body fat which automatically correlates to increased risk for chronic diseases e.g. hypertension, etc.

Maria, Siquijor – Implementers of the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program (TKSP) in Maria, Siquijor acknowledged the positive outcome of the program to pregnant women-beneficiaries. Almost all of them delivered normal babies after participating in the 90-day TKSP program. The observation was shared by the health and nutrition personnel directly involved in the program during the Technical Assistance and Monitoring and Evaluation (TAME) visit held recently. According to MNPC Jackielyn Tomimbang, although there were minor problems encountered during program implementation such as delays in the delivery of food commodities, other beneficiaries can’t come to the feeding center forcing the health and nutrition workers to deliver their rations at home, among others, but the sight of pinkish and healthy babies with normal weights delivered by those pregnant women enrolled in the program outweigh those challenges.
TKSP is a program implemented by NNC together with select local governments with the objective to help contribute to the prevention of stunting by improving the quality and quantity of food, as well as nutrient intakes among nutritionally-at-risk pregnant women and 6-23 months old.
