Pilar, Bohol – The municipality of Pilar in the province of Bohol reported a shortage of food and the subsequent increase in food prices. The scarcity of food was brought about by the reduced food production and/or damaged farm produce because of the massive flooding brought about by Super Typhoon Rai locally known as Odette that devastated the municipality and the province of Bohol and other parts of the region on 16 December 2021.
The information was shared by Pilar MNAO Angelito M. Busano of the Municipal Agriculture Office during the Local Nutrition Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) Program Implementation Review conducted by the National Nutrition Council Region VII. The review held on 7 and 11 October 2022 via online platform was attended by a total of 28 participants representing all six LNEWS-FNS areas in the region including the delegates from the five sentinel barangays in each local government.

Samboan, Cebu – The term micronutrients refer to vitamins and minerals in general. Humans must obtain micronutrients from food because, for the most part, your body cannot produce vitamins and minerals. That is why they are also known as essential nutrients. Vitamins are required for energy production, immune function, blood clotting, and a variety of other processes. Meanwhile, minerals are essential for growth, bone health, fluid balance, and a variety of other processes.
They serve a variety of purposes, including allowing the body to produce enzymes, hormones, and other substances required for normal growth and development. Even though people only require trace amounts of micronutrients, consuming the recommended amount is critical. That is why they are referred to as "micro." Micronutrient deficiencies can be life-threatening. Iron, vitamin A, and iodine deficiencies are the most common all over the world, especially in children and pregnant women.
Water-soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins, macrominerals, and trace minerals are the four types of vitamins and minerals.

Valencia, Negros Oriental – We often hear “they are a diet-conscious family”. This is because children eat or drink what their parents give them. A family of diabetic people may have this sickness because all are just eating or drinking what is customarily offered at the table by the elders, whether grandparents or parents.
According to Savage, J. et. al. (2007), parents have an influence on children’s eating behavior because they are the ones preparing food for them. It further explained that during the early years, children’s learning about food plays a big role in future food choices. This is true now that children become unhealthy due to too much inexpensive palatable energy-dense food that caused overeating and weight gain. In addition, because of scarcity, feeding children with unhealthy food became only a trend. In contrast, those who can afford to buy food in third-world countries also eat fast food and ready-to-eat foods.
