Attended in by the active members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC), the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Salcedo, Eastern Samar conducted a 3-day Municipal Nutrition Planning Workshop on 9-11 August 2017 at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall, Salcedo, Eastern Samar.
Salcedo a coastal municipality in Eastern Samar has a population of 23,872 as of 2017 is pushing to reduce malnutrition lower than the World Health Organization (WHO) cut-off values for public health significance. The MNC aims to achieve the following: underweight from 7% in 2017 to 5% in 2020, wasted from 3.5% in 2017 to 2% in 2020, stunted from 18.4% in 2017 to 15% in 2020, and obesity from 4.57% in 2017 to 3% in 2020.
Municipal Mayor, Atty. Melchor Llego Mergal and Dr. Ma. Socorro S. Campo, the Municipal Health Officer of Salcedo has prioritized health across all ages especially on health promotion and disease prevention. Dr. Campo said that being a top performer municipality in health governance, the LGU would like to sustain its effectiveness in implementing local health programs.
The said planning workshop which was facilitated in by NOII Ms. Ullasini J. Pangan, and NOIII Mr. NiƱo Archie S. Labordo of NNC VIII, has produced action plans from the Department of Education (DepEd), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Office of the Municipal Agricultural Services (OMAS), Office of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB), and the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Salcedo. The said plans are scheduled for presentation during the SB Session for adoption and approval after which it will be integrated and finalized.
