bns ormocDespite the 5.1 quake that jolted Ormoc City on 23 August, seventeen (17) more Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) completed the five-day Training on Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars at Pongos Hotel, Ormoc City on 22-26 August 2017.
Evelyn Morata, 50, BNS of Limasawa, Southern Leyte expressed that she was pacified by her co- participants and the training activities provided in by the NNC facilitators. She claimed that she never felt earth shaking or experienced an earthquake in her entire life. RNPC Dr. Dotollo rushed in to do a psychosocial intervention after the earthquake occurred on Tuesday and assured of a very productive training-workshop ahead.

 

Invited to give input on this training were Tacloban City CNAO Ms. Malou Tabao and Leyte DNPC Ms. Therese Estella De Guzman. Inputs added to the training is on the assessment of severely acute malnutrition (SAM) and the BNS Role in the Implementation of Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022.

The NNC targeted thirty-five (35) BNSs to be trained this year but the count surpassed to forty-one (41) attendees. The first batch training was attended in by BNSs from Samar area last March 2017 while the second batch was participated in by BNSs coming from the provinces of Leyte and Southern Leyte.
