NiEm san juan 4Introduction to basic concepts on Nutrition in Emergencies and planning workshop was conducted in the Municipality of San Juan, Southern Leyte on 4-6 April 2018 at the AVR, Southern Leyte State University-San Juan Campus.
Thirty-eight (38) participants completed the training implemented under the local government unit Bottom-Up Budgeting Health Emergencies Management System (BUB-HEMS). The training-workshop was aimed to come-up with a municipal nutrition plan which subsequently be incorporated in the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan. According to DRR-HEMS Coordinator through the Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Eliza R. Coraza, the training workshop is necessary as the municipality is one of the pacific coastal municipalities in the province. Likewise, terrorism and natural calamities may pose a threat in the municipality. Being ready to threats and disasters will reduce the casualty and will prepare the rural folks on the life line needed specifically food security.

NOIII Niῆo Archie S. Labordo, NOII Ullasini J, Pangan and Southern Leyte DNPC Lourdes Nilda Rich facilitated the three-day live out training which shared localized strategies as experienced from the disasters encountered in the region. Additionally, the NiEm training included the topic on Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 where participants appreciated the significance of prioritizing interventions for 0-59 months wasted and stunted children.
