With the role of improving the nutrition situation in Eastern Visayas through a harmonized nutrition sensitive approach, the Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG) on Nutrition during its Second Quarter Meeting on 23 April 2018 welcomes its newest members of the group.
Ready to collaborate and provide social services, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Philippine National Police (PNP) commit actions to be in one way with the government in reducing malnutrition in the region.
In the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022, the mentioned line agencies play a big role under the Nutrition-Sensitive Programs that addresses the underlying causes of malnutrition. In this context, the nutrition-specific programs will be complemented with the nutrition-sensitive program that includes existing development projects, these will be tweaked to produce nutritional outcomes. The tweaking process can be by way of targeting households with undernourished children, or pregnant women or children 0-23 months old for employment. Likewise, targeting areas with high levels of malnutrition for the development project, and serving as a channel or platform for delivering nutrition-specific interventions can also be an avenue.
Regional Line Agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations with big chunked in PPAN are likewise to submit programs, projects and activities that will be consolidated to produce the Eastern Visayas Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition 2019-2022.
The meeting, likewise discussed the ongoing Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI, Quarterly Accomplishment Reports and the incoming activities for the 2018 Nutrition Month Celebration. ### (NASLabordo, NNC8)
