TACLOBAN CITY – Awarding of prizes to winners of contests promoting the 44th Nutrition Month theme, “Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!” culminated the 2018 month-long celebration of Nutrition Month in Eastern Visayas.
Leyte Gov. Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla and Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo Jr., National Nutrition Council Region VIII Region (NNC-8) Regional Nutrition Program coordinator, spearheaded the culmination program attended by representatives from line-agency members of the Nutrition Regional Technical Working Group, non-government organizations on nutrition, contest participant and contest winners, city and provincial nutrition program implementers, nutrition stake holders and the media.
The four competitions launched to highlight the importance of growing one’s own food through Gardening were: a Katsa Painting Contest--for Junior High School students in this city; Photo Contest depicting modern backyard garden—open to all interested, a Nutri-Jingle—also open, and Best Gulayan sa Paaralan—for DepEd schools in Leyte Division.
Winners in the Katsa Painting are: 1st Place - Keiran L. Consus of Sacred Heart School, bagged a certificate, P2,000 cash prize and token in the presence of her adviser Hanna Mae Hernani; 2nd Place - Charles Ivann Boleche of Eastern Visayas University, also bagged a Certificate, P1,500 cash prize and token in the presence of adviser Arvin Ian Cillo; and 3rd Place Josef K. Diaz of Leyte National High School, likewise bagged a Certificate, P1,000 cash prize and token in the presence of adviser Lemuel P. Valler, Jr.
Winners in the Nutri-Jingle Contest are: 1st Place - Benjielyn Macawile, garnering a Certificate, P1,000 cash prize and token; 2nd Place - Canipaan National High School in Hinunangan, Southern Leyte garnering a certificate, P750 cash prize and token; and 3rd Place - Borseth National High School in Alang-alang, Leyte, likewise garnering a Certificate, P500 cash prize and token.
Winners in the Nutri-Photo Constest are: 1st Place - Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, gaining a Certificate, P1,000 cash prize and token; 2nd Place - Rural Health Unit of Gamay, Northern Samar, gaining a Certificate, P750 cash prize and toke; and 3rd Place - LGU-Mapanas, Northern Samar, likewise gaining a Certificate, P500 cash prize and token.
And winners in the “Best in Gulayan sa Paaralan” are: 1st Place - Borseth National High School in Alangalang, Leyte receiving a Certificate, P3,000 cash prize and token; 2nd Place - Mahaplag Upper National High School in Mahaplag, Leyte also receiving a Certificate, P2,000 cash prize and token; and 3rd Place - Putingbato Elementary School in Isabel, Leyte likewise receiving a Certificate, P1,000 cash prize and token.
Judges for the Nutrition Month contests were: 1. Paolo T. Amascual, 2. Moserrat T. Llauderes and 3. Nino Charles Advincula; And the evaluators for the Best in Gulayan sa Paaralan were: 1.Aileen Quimbo of the Tacloban City Agriculture Office, 2. Minerva Langco of the Philippine Coconut Authority VIII, 3. Erwin Abonales also of the Philippine Coconut Authority VIII, and 4. Cynthia Abegonia of the Department of Agrarian Reform VIII.
