Filipinos don’t usually celebrate holidays like Christmas and New Year without preparing a lot of food in their table. Traditionally, lechon, hamon, pasta, desserts, vegetables, fruits and a lot of kakanins are usually served. Also, celebrating these days would not be complete without wine, beer, tuba etc.
Happy tummy!!!! But is it healthy?To further help us this season, we get back to 10 Kumainments, the popular version of the revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF).
Here are some healthy Nutrition Tips this season:
- Balance - eating variety of food that would provide adequate nutrients that your body needs. We are reminded by Kumainment No. 1 “Kumain ng iba’t-ibang pagkain”;
- Moderation - eat and drink moderately;
- Control -discipline yourself in terms of eating and drinking. All together we read, Kumainment No. VIII “Hinay-hinay sa maaalat, mamantika at matatamis"; and
- Doing Physical activities - physical activities can help lower your blood cholesterol which gained from eating foods served during the season. It can also help achieve and maintain a healthy weight and it can improve your mood and entry level. Always be reminded with Kumainment No. IX “Panatilihin ang tamang timbang” and Kumainment No. X “Maging aktibo, iwasan ang alak at wag manigarilyo”
Because food brings Filipinos together on holiday season, be it a reminder that too much sinful meals will tax our arteries and strain our waste lines. And surely, we do not want to be worrying of the non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer in the future. # NASLabordo
