PALO, LEYTE – Thirty-five (35) members of the Maasin City Nutrition Evaluation Team (CNET) joined in the training on the Monitoring and Evaluation on Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro tool on 17-18 February 2020 at Supercha, Maasin City, Southern Leyte.
The group was oriented on the key features, mechanics on the conduct of the activity and content of the MELLPI Pro forms for both the Local Government Unit and Nutrition Workers. MELLPI Pro is part of the updated monitoring and evaluation framework and system developed for the nutrition sector which covers the assessment of nationwide initiatives along policy, and legislation, nutrition service delivery, and capacity building.
The two-day training equipped the members of the City Monitoring and Evaluation Team to assess and evaluate the different dimensions for the barangay nutrition program implementation. The updated tool covers the different dimensions, specifically: vision and mission; nutrition laws and policies; governance and organizational structure; local nutrition committee management functions; nutrition interventions and services and the nutritional changes in the past three years. On the other hand, the participants were able to learn the different areas for the local nutrition workers management performance. MELLPI Pro for local nutrition workers listed the following elements: coordination; advocacy and promotion; planning; implementation; monitoring and evaluation; resource generation; documentation and record-keeping and capacity-building.
City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO), Dr. Franscilisa Tan, encouraged everyone to provide technical assistance to each of their area of assignments. She also conveyed the group to work as a team and strengthen the barangay participation in the reduction of malnutrition in the city. Aside from the MELLPI inputs delivered by NOIII Niño Archie S. Labordo, RNPC Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. provided inputs on Why Invest in Nutrition and encouraged the CNC to make a branding on the City’s ECCD F1K implementation.
With the orientation provided by the National Nutrition Council 8, the City of Maasin Nutrition Evaluation Team is now ready to conduct the MELLPI to the seventy (70) barangays and the Barangay Nutrition Scholars starting in March 2020. #NASLabordo
